What is an Iced Tea Cocktail?
Think about your favourite flavor of fruit tea, steeped and iced ...now, add alcohol! For starters, an iced tea cocktail is the love-child between the comforting beverage of tea in combination with a spirit.
Why do people make iced tea cocktails? For starters, long island iced teas has had us thinking we've been drinking alcohol with tea for decades. But the truth is, there is NO tea in long island iced tea.
But, there is tea in The Great Purple Emperor Cocktail.
This exotic cocktail is the perfect combination of sweet and refreshing. The ingredients are simple to follow, but crafting this cocktail could take a few extra minutes in order to achieve the colorful ombre affect of the cocktail. You could serve this cocktail at a variety of occasions such as:
Summer cookouts
Lounging by the pool
Birthday party
Bridal shower
Mother's Day Brunch
The Great Purple Emperor Ingredients
4 Ounces Vodka
5 Ounces Passion Fruit Nectar
2 Ounces Sparkling Water
4 Ounces Butterfly Pea Tea
Garnish: Sprig of Lavender
Vodka - We used Belvedere Pure Vodka for this recipe. Feel free to use a vodka of your choice. We just prefer Belvedere, but I find that most vodka brands will work well with this recipe.
Sparkling Water - I used Fever Tree Premium Tonic Water. I prefer using sparkling water or seltzer instead of soda for less calories.
Fruit Nectar - If you are able to, use fresh fruit nectar! For this recipe I used Rubicon Passion Fruit Juice. We enjoy using brands like Rubicon because of how silky their juice consistency is and their overall flavours just seem to work really well with cocktails.
Tea - I steeped Cup of Té's Purple Butterfly Pea Tea. I steeped the tea overnight and put it in the fridge to cool for about 4-5 hours before mixing and serving. We are huge fans of Cup of Té and love their line of teas!
Garnish: Lavender - Fresh lavender complimented our cocktail's colors so we decided to use it as garnish, though the cocktail does not contain any lavender notes. Opt out lavender for a lemon wheel instead, it works just as well and compliments the look of the drink.
Cocktail Instructions
Crafting this cocktail only requires 7 quick and easy steps:
Step One
Steep your Purple Butterfly Pea Tea. Chill in the fridge for 4-5 hours.
Step Two
Add vodka and fruit nectar to cocktail shaker. Add ice. Shake until chilled.
Step Three
Add ice to the glass of your choice. Pour chilled vodka and fruit mixture into glass.
Step Four
Lightly pour tea overtop vodka fruit mixture.
Step Five
Top off with a splash of tonic water.
Step Six
Add your lavender sprig garnish. Serve.
Step Seven
Garnish with spiced grapefruit wedges.
