Spicy Buttermilk Chicken Wings 1

What are Spicy Buttermilk Chicken Wings?

These buttermilk chicken wings have become a staple in my house over the past few years. We make them on the weekends and when a big sports event is on, they make for the perfect appetizer for when we are entertaining.

Buttermilk wings are similar to traditional chicken wings but tossed in a rich mixture of hot sauce, butter, cream and spices. Normally we would fry our wings in oil on the stove, but we ended up using an air fryer for a more clean and oil free fry and it turned out perfectly.

Spicy buttermilk wings are really easy to make and take little to no time to prepare. With minimal ingredients needed, these wings are perfect to make for a variety of occasions such as:

  • Major Sports Events (Superbowl, Playoffs etc.)

  • Summer cookouts

  • Pool party

  • Birthday party

  • Bachelor party

  • Or just entertaining around the house

Spicy Buttermilk Chicken Wings Ingredients

  • 1 Pound Chicken Wings

  • 4 Tablespoons Salted Butter (Melted)

  • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream

  • 1/2 Cup Buffalo Sauce

  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Smoked Paprika

  • 1/2 Tablespoon Lemon Juice

  • A Pinch of Onion Powder

  • A Pinch of Chili Flakes

Ingredients

Chicken Wings - Traditionally I try to buy chicken wings fresh from a local butcher store near my house. But this recipe can be used on frozen wings too! Just make sure they aren't already pre marinated or tossed in a sauce (if so, it changes the flavour of the recipe). When I buy store bought wings I ALWAYS buy President's Choice Split Chicken Wings. I always end up getting a really good ratio of drum and flat pieces.

Garlic Parsley Butter - I used Gay Lea Garlic Parsley Butter. It already takes the work out of having to add both parsley flakes and garlic to the wings. Feel free to use traditional salted or unsalted butter. If you opt out salted butter for unsalted, just add salt in your buttermilk mixture.

Buffalo Sauce - This ingredient for me personally makes or breaks the overall wing taste. Buffalo sauce has an extremely distinct taste. Depending on the brand you go for some have more citric acid than others. This increases the heat level. I use Frank's Red Buffalo Hot Sauce. I literally put that shit on everything.

Spicy Buttermilk Chicken Wings Instructions & Steps

Making these Spicy Buttermilk Chicken Wings only requires 7 quick and easy steps:

Step One

Thaw your chicken wings on the counter for about 20-25 minutes. Doing this before speeds up the entire process.

Step Two

Add your thawed wings into an air fryer and set to fry at 300 degrees fahrenheit. Fry for 30 minutes and turn every 15 minutes.

Step Three

After 30 minutes is up, increase air fryer heat to 375 and set air fryer to the roast option (this gives your wings a grill like finish). Roast for 15 minutes.

Step Four

Combine heavy cream and lemon juice together. Mix well and set aside.

Step Five

In a separate bowl, melt butter. Once melted, combine buffalo sauce and spices. Mix well.

Step Six

Add your wings to your bowl of buttermilk, combine butter and buffalo mixture and toss wings evenly.

Step Seven

Sprinkle a dash of chili flakes overtop and serve hot.
